Spec Scoring

There is a rule of thumb that in order to get projects you must already have projects as proof of ability. While one could take this Catch 22 and wallow in it, I’ve taken it upon myself to gather pre-existing footage and add my own score to it. Note that I do not own the following footage but the scoring is wholly original. May these examples serve as my potential for future projects that require film score.

La Brea - Pilot, Opening

I aim to capture the surreal and awe-inspiring nature of something as dramatic as a sinkhole opening in the center of LA. The main theme is this descending progression that has a warmth that alludes that maybe all is not lost.

Bad Hair - Trailer

Inspired by the gospel choirs of the South, I drew upon the staples of my youth including melodic humming and an electric organ that filled my grandmother’s house.

NOPE - Trailer

The exciting part of this trailer was creating a fictional song “My Horse Says Neigh” and incorporating it into the bombastic score toward the end. I think it came together quite nicely, in fact, my dad said this fake song was his favorite and asked for it on MP3.
